Reading 1 — Brain Drain

Every year, thousands of young Moroccan engineers, doctors and teachers leave their country to work abroad. This phenomenon is called brain drain. There are many reasons for it. First, salaries in Europe and Canada are much higher. Second, researchers there find modern laboratories and enough funds for their projects. Finally, some of them say that promotion at home depends on connections, not on competence. As a result, developing countries lose the people they need most, while rich countries get skilled workers for free. To solve this problem, governments should invest in research, pay decent salaries and give young talents real opportunities.

Reading 2 — Technology and Students

Smartphones have completely changed the way students learn. Thanks to the internet, a pupil in a small village can now watch a lesson given by a famous teacher, download past exams and correct his mistakes alone. Moreover, learning applications make revision easier because they repeat what the learner forgets. However, technology also has a dark side. Many students spend hours on social media instead of revising, and some of them copy their homework from the internet without understanding anything. Therefore, the problem is not the tool itself but the way we use it. A student who uses his phone for thirty minutes of real practice learns more than one who reads for three hours without concentration.
